About Us

Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl meaning "From Darkness to Light." The founders of our organization chose this name to symbolize their hope for the future.

The organization was established on April 10, 1995, by a group of people in prison at the Corradino Correctional Facility in Paola, Malta. Its original aim was to support themselves and their families in navigating the challenges of the prison experience with dignity.

In August of the same year, after their release, two of the founding members continued the group's work outside of prison. They established a close relationship with the non-governmental organisation Dar it-Tama.

Our organisation provides services to persons in prison, their families, and ex-incarcerated individuals. Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl is also a member of COPE (Children of Prisoners Europe), a pan-European network dedicated to supporting children with imprisoned parents.

Our Logo

Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl adopted its new emblem in 2002. The emblem features a crooked tree supported by a sturdy mast, symbolizing individual human life, which can become twisted due to unfortunate circumstances—an experience familiar to many people in prison and their families.

The mast represents Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl, offering organised and structured support to help the struggling tree regain its original shape. This imagery encapsulates the mission and work of the organisation.
